Immaculate Motsi

Dr. Immaculate (Mac) Motsi-Omoijiade is a Senior Research Fellow and Responsible AI Lead at the AI and Cyber Futures Institute at Charles Sturt University. Her research focuses on the safe and ethical deployment of AI systems, emphasizing the legal and policy dimensions across various industries and commercial use cases. Before joining Charles Sturt University, Mac worked as a Research Analyst in Science and Emerging Technology at RAND Europe in Cambridge, UK. Her research spanned emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, quantum computing, extended reality (VR, AR), and the metaverse and their application in various public sector and commercial settings. Prior to her tenure at RAND, Mac held the position of Research Fellow in Emerging Technology at the Lloyds Banking Group Centre for Responsible Business within the University of Birmingham Business School. During this time, she also served as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the School of Law, University of Birmingham. Mac holds a PhD in Law from the University of Warwick, School of Law. Her thesis, titled ‘Cryptocurrency Regulation: A Reflexive Law Approach,’ garnered an honorary mention at the 2020 UK Doctoral Research Awards (DRA). It provides a comprehensive classification of national and international regulatory responses to cryptocurrency regulation, tracing the historical development and evolution of cryptocurrencies. In addition to her PhD, Mac earned a Masters in Law (LLM) in Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation from the University of Warwick, a Masters in Public Policy (MPP) specializing in Economics from the National University of Singapore, and a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Politics and International Relations from the University of Pretoria.
