Keiron Boyd

DST Group

Dr. Keiron Boyd is the Discipline Lead for the Ultrashort and Short Pulsed Laser (USPL) team in the Laser Systems Group, Sensors and Effectors division within DST Group. He received his PHD from the University of Adelaide in in Physics in 2013 and has since worked in industry, academia now DST Group on High Energy Laser (HEL) systems. This work has included the design and fabrication of high power laser component systems that have successfully been licensed to laser manufacturers globally, the establishment of effects testing facilities and the design and development of USPL systems. He has led and worked with international panels on Directed Energy Lasers including as a lecturer for the series on High Energy Laser (HEL) Weapon Technology, Opportunities, and Challenges as part of NATO.

He strongly believes that USPL technology cannot successfully be transitioned to capability in isolation, and working with colleagues has helped established a USPL ecosystem through initiatives with DST Group and The University of Adelaide where he has and continues supervision of PHD and Master’s students on USPL research, helping to provide a pathway for the next generation of leaders in laser technology and a potential workforce for Defence.
